Rag Tag Heroes

Since we last spoke, I went to Lakeland, Floriday to watch the Detroit Tigers play in some spring training games.  The weather was really nice – around 80 degrees, and low humidity – that’s the key.  I actually used sunblock and didn’t get purple burns on my skin like the last time I was in Florida, so that was good.  The Tigers went 1-1 to the games that we saw, so it wasn’t too bad.  Jeremy and I mostly spent the day at the game and the night in the hotel room drinking beers.  Maybe we should have taken better advantage of the time we spent there, although we did walk to 7-11 on one of the days, so that’s something.

I’m going to attempt to cook with a wok tonight.  I got my rice cooker out on Tuesday and figured out how to work that, so now I’m going to try to make some fried rice.  While I have some of the stuff necessary to make an honest to goodness stir fry, we always seem to be deficient of vegetables.  While the rice cooks, I’ll probably go out and get the rest of the stuff for my sauce and marinade.

I’ve been slacking hardcore on the gym this year, and I actually went on Tuesday for cardio.  I’ve missed the last few days and I feel myself getting complacent so I decided yesterday that I’m going to try the 100 burpee challenge.  If you don’t know what a burpee is, I’ll tell you that it isn’t a little burp.  It’s an excersize where you start standing, then you crouch down, and put your hands down, and push your feet back so that you’re into a pushup position.  Once you drop into the pushup position, you go all the way down so that you’re on your chest, then you push yourself up.  At that point, you bring your feet back underneath you into a squat, stand straight up and then jump into the air.  When you get back to your feet, you start the whole thing over again, in rapid succession.  Here’s what I’m talking about:

So, what the 100 burpee challenge is, is on day 1, you do 1 burpee.  On day 2, you do 2 burpees. Day 3, you do 3, etc.  If you miss a day, you make up all of those burpees on the next day, plus the ones that you have to do for that day.  So, if you miss day 49, on day 50, you do 99 burpees.  They don’t have to all be right in a row, as I plan on doing about 10 in a set when I get past day 15 or so.  I’m also doing a few extra just to make sure I get the right form down.  I can already tell this is going to be a good test, and something that will be a good supplement to my current workout.  I guess it won’t hurt right?  Plus, I’m looking for something to help me kickstart my weightloss, since that’s slowed since I’ve slacked off.

Today is my yearly recurrence of the date of a past event.

Today is my 3rd wedding anniversary.  Katie and I both have doctor’s appointments in the morning tomorrow, so we basically can’t really go out and indulge ourselves tonight.  derpity derp.

I switched up my cardio this morning, and used this torture device known as the “arctrainer”.  I’ve been using an elliptical since I started, and I really got used to it.  I’ve been going for an hour at a time on my cardio days and while I do work up a nice sweat, what I’ve been doing couldn’t prepare me for how bad it got this morning.  This thing destroyed me.  When I took off my shirt, it looked like someone dumped a bucket of water on my head, it was bad.  I was wiped out, and I only did 50 minutes.  I could barely keep my balance on the handles from all the sweat running down my forearms.   Hopefully this change of pace will help.  I need to develop a couple weights routines now.

In other news, I changed around my blog.  You lj peeps can’t see it, because you see my canned lj template, but trust me, it’s all new!  I made a new banner last night, woo! and I basically changed around the colors and moved some stuff from a template I downloaded.  Regardless of how much or little work I did to someone else’s work, I feel accomplished.

Imagine a Karaoke Machine

I have work to do, but I’m just gonna write this instead.

Friday, Raz came over, fell asleep on my couch while watching Tim and Eric, awesome show, great job. We did attempt to watch Return of the Living Dead, and we were successful in that. If you set small goals, they’re easier to attain. He ended up leaving around 11:30 and I was lame and went to bed by midnight. How fucking boring. I’m 31 years old and I go to bed on the weekends by midnight. I get up at 6 sometimes, but still.

On Saturday, I got up at like 9 or someshit, and Katie went out to my inlaws cottage to help them with some golf bullshit, so I stayed home and hooked my 360 back up and played a deathmatch on GTA (FINISHED 2nd, WOO!) and a couple games of Madden, and looked at some other shit, all in preparation for getting my game on SATURDAY NIGHT over RAZ’S HOUSE for a ROCKBAND 2 PARTY! I drank for the first time in like… 3 weeks or something, and ate some chips and drank a bunch of 5 o’clock vodka out of the plastic bottle. I tried to make Raz go drink for drink with me on the shots, but he doesn’t drink often and he only had like 3 sips while I drank a bulk of it and was feeling it. I ended up singing with two other people on some song that I don’t remember and duet with some chick on Psycho Killer by the Talking Heads. She let me sing the high parts, and I was probably awesome. There were a bunch of people I’ll probably never recognize again because I was inebriated. I don’t think I got home until about 3 or so.

Sunday I was awoken at 8am by my nephew, so I said hi and stuff, and Katie covered for me telling him “Uncle Sean has a tummy ache so he’s going to go back to bed” , what an angel… She left to take him to the cottage, and I stayed in bed and recovered. I woke up around 10 and sat on the couch the rest of the day.

I had Monday off, and I watched a couple movies, one documentary called Heavy Load about a punk band in the UK made up of some learning disabled people and some non disabled people. I only caught the last hour or so, but it was pretty interesting. I also watched The Barbarians with David and Peter Paul, also known as the Barbarian brothers… great job!

That night I had my final session with my trainer. I felt like it went kind of crappy, and I didn’t go into my training with the right attitude. I sweat my ass off though, and I felt like I had a good workout at the end. He was really cool, and told me if I had any questions to let him know, and to keep checking back with him, and he’ll help me modify my workout and stuff. I feel like in the 7 weeks we worked together, while I haven’t lost a lot of weight, I’ve lost inches and gained a lot of self confidence. I’ve put on a bunch of muscle and now I’m starting to lose weight a little quicker, which I have to obviously contribute to the muscle gain, the change in my diet, and the increase in my metabolism. I’m also eating the 5 – 6 small meals a day, so that’s helping too.

Today, back to the grind of work. 4 days can’t pass fast enough.

tube of you.

I have to say, I’m glad I started posting ridiculously cheesy videos onto youtube because I’m totally reaping the rewards. After having some videos on for a few months, I’m starting to get comments on a somewhat regular basis, and while most of them don’t make any sense, some of them can be particularly amusing. I also enjoy seeing where these videos have been getting linked from. I haven’t been brave enough, however to film myself and post anything, thankfully.

Anyhow, I watched Football all yesterday and didn’t drink at all. I usually don’t drink like a case or anything by myself, but I went over Tim’s and I didn’t drink a single alcoholic beverage. Usually if I go out, I drink. I didn’t do that yesterday so I feel accomplished.

On the other hand, I’ve been going to the gym less, so I feel defeated, but I’m recommitting myself this week. I don’t enjoy weights much, but I do enjoy cardio. I’m switching my schedule to do more weights now and less cardio. I want to find a mix that I can drink after a workout that contains enough carbs and protein so that I don’t have to always rush home and eat after I’m done.

Saturday, I spent time putting a new handle on my storm door, now I have to put on the lock. I need longer screws though because the ones that came in the package weren’t long enough to attach the lock. We also finished painting our bathroom upstairs. We’ve been showering in our other bathroom, and the water pressure is so high it feels like it’s going to knock my face off of my head. I just started getting used to it, and now we’re going to go back to the low water pressure world of upstairs, and it’s going to feel too weak. Whatever.

Friday night, Raz came over and we watched She-Wolves of the wasteland, which was horrible. Then we played Castle Crashers on XBLA which is probably my favorite live game so far. I can say it’s gotta be one of the games I’ve played the most of so far. I’ve also been splitting gaming time between Spore, the Warhammer Online Beta and Madden 09 (which I need to play more). Lots of games are coming up this holiday season that I’m interested in. I enjoy all these games coming out, but I don’t enjoy that they all come out at the same time and I don’t have time to really commit to them 🙁

For whom the kettlebell tolls

I had a pretty big road rage incident yesterday.  I was hungry, and in turn cranky, and on my way home for lunch yesterday, and I think I drove behind every stupid driver possible on my chosen route home.  Halfway through my drive, they started closing the road I was on while I was waiting at a stoplight.  Then I had to take a detour and drove behind some ass who didn’t know how to use his turn signals, or make right turns at red lights.  I was in rare form.  I haven’t been very aggressive since my workouts began, and this was probably my first outburst in a while.  I got home and ate lunch and calmed down.

I had my second workout with my trainer last night.  He kicked my ass and I actually couldn’t finish the workout.  I have to see about taking vitamins with Iron, since I don’t eat a lot of iron rich foods.  Hopefully it will help me a little and give me a little more endurance.   I learned that I was doing my cardio at too high of a heart rate, so I have to slow that down for next time, because I’m probably burning more muscle than fat.  I also had my first experience with a kettlebell.   That was the major tipping point from me having energy to being completely drained.  I’ll have to work more with that.

Because my session was so late, I was wiped out and missed my cardio this morning, so I’m feeling a little guilty about that.  I was awake and just laying there at 6:20 already feeling guilty because I knew I’d probably not be getting up.  Maybe I’ll go after work today.

Other than that, I don’t really have much else to say.  I feel like I haven’t really been stimulating my brain very well recently.  I’d rather talk about ideas instead of what I’ve been doing day to day.  The mundane details of my day are dragging me down.

Maybe I’ll go to vault of midnight today to see what’s new.

Recollecting Tuesday

Yesterday was cool. Jason and I went out to the Munny show at Lift and looked at the cool munnies that people did. There were a few that were really good, and one or two that were… bad. Bad enough that I feel like I could probably do a good job. Someone painted one of those big $200 munnies like a zombie, it was actually really well done, and another where the artist airbrushed it, and used applique. It was really cool and it was selling for $200. I guess the guy has a regular collector that will come in and buy up his custom work whenever he’s displaying it. They also told us about a couple of their other upcoming shows. I didn’t ask about the Kozik Redrum Dunny – I thought about it, but I don’t have the money to buy it right now anyhow. I did end up buying a plush hello kitty in a monkey suit, complete with banana, for Katie, and a Tokidoki Skelletrina figure to go with my Adios and Ciao Ciao.

Afterwards, we went to the Royal Oak Brewery and had dinner and a couple beers. Once we got back, I had to go home because I was about to fall asleep in the car. I ended up getting up at 5:30 this morning to go to the gym, so I knew I’d want to get enough sleep.

I did weights today, and I think I need to seriously update the amount on a few of the exercises I’m doing. I’m going to wait until my next session with my trainer before I make any drastic descisions. Maybe he’ll have some different things for me to try out. I find myself enjoying my cardio work a lot more than weights, even though I sweat my bag off doing cardio.

An overdue update.

I haven’t forgotten to write, I’ve just been a little busy. I’ll recap my weekend.

Thursday night, I went out to the bar with Chris and a few other people I used to work with. It was fun, beer was cheap, and thankfully I had the next day off of work because we closed the bar that night. I was especially happy I had the day off the next morning, because I think I probably would have had a hard time making it in at a reasonable hour.

Friday night, Katie was out helping her sister with the babies, so I went with Raz over to Dave’s house and we had a little 3 person GTA fest. We ended up playing some races with another group of people for a few hours, and one of the guys had this easily mimic’d voice, so We had fun with that for the rest of the night. I ended up driving Raz home and then I had to drive back home, so I was on the road for about an hour before I could crash into my bed.

Saturday night I met up with Dave at Tim’s house and we were supposed to watch a movie, but we ended up playing Soul Caliber 4 and Mario Kart and drinking beers. Another late night.

Sunday I went out to the cottage and did my favorite thing in the entire world… WATCHED GOLF ON TV! YAY! Other than that, chilled outside and took a ride on the neighbor’s boat for a little bit, which actually ended up being fun. I got some crazy bite on my arm that is red as hell right now, and I’d love to scratch the shit out of it, but it hurts when I do, so I’ll have to just leave it alone.

Monday after work, I had my first appointment at the gym with my trainer. He kicked my ass. I got a little dizzy for a minute because I didn’t eat what I was supposed to before the session. The guy seems pretty down to business, which was difficult, because I like to joke around a little bit, and he wasn’t having it. Maybe next week it’ll be a little better. He gave me a bunch of homework to do for next week, so hopefully I’ll be a little better prepared. I wasn’t as sore as I was last week after my freelance workout. I couldn’t really move my arms much last wednesday and had to actually leave work. I thought by going home and crying in bed it might make my arms feel a little less useless. I was sadly mistaken. After about 2 hours with the heating pad on my arms helped loosen them up.

Tuesday, after my workout, this time I was a little sore, but nothing major. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it to the gym, but I made sure to get up bright and early today and went before work. I sweat my bag off, but I felt good after I was done. I plan on going in tomorrow before work too. It’s a nice wakeup.

I don’t feel any type of “high” after I workout, but when I miss a day, I feel guilty about it. Maybe that guilt is enough to keep me motivated.

Oh, and I just started a giveaway at my site, so if you’re interested in possibly winning a 12 Inch zombie figure, check it out at here – it’s free to enter, and requires no obligation.
