Katie’s watching a show called “My Fake Baby” on BBC America, and I just feel so compelled to write about it. It’s a documentary about these women in the U.K. that collect these dolls that look like real babies, and they carry them around, push them in strollers in public, take them shopping, etc as if they were real babies. Here’s a clip:
These people drive around with them in carseats, one of the women carries around laundry detergent in a bottle that looks like formula… WTF.
For some reason this is infuriating to me. They show these women getting these babies and some of them are crying as if they are the real thing. One woman in particular had a grandson that she was caring for while her daughter had cancer. Once her daughter’s cancer was in remission, she met a man and moved to New Zealand and took the grandson with her, obviously. They didn’t reveal that until a little later, but she acted like this kid had died, it was that painful. She acted like she couldn’t visit this kid, and it just made me sick to my stomach.
It’s on right now, and I think I’m going to have to leave the room because I hate dolls, they honestly scare the shit out of me. Especially the ones with those eyes that roll around when you pick them up. FUCKIN’ YIKES.
I’m going to have nightmares for weeks because of this.
